BOL4(볼빨간사춘기) _ Leo(나비와 고양이) (feat. BAEKHYUN(백현))
If you do not like “Leo” you are just a bad person. Full disclosure: I have a Baekhyun bias. The man can do no wrong. List of terrible songs by Byun Baekhyun: 404 NOT FOUND. I don’t typically go for songs like this. But BOL4 and Baekhyun melted my ice queen heart. It’s literally a song BOL4 wrote about her cat and it’s called “Leo” like a lion. Uwu. In the music video, BOL4 is portraying her cat frolicking around. It is the cutest thing! I like songs that aren’t your typical love song. “Leo” could be a love song about two people in a romantic relationship, but it could also just be about how much she loves her cat. BOL4 is just adorable in this! Her voice is sweet and charming and blends well with Baekhyun’s voice. Those harmonies are airtight! I could listen to Baekhyun’s vocals all day. I just never get tired of hearing him sing. It’s cheery, springy and summery. There is seriously nothing to hate about “Leo”. ~Kpopcorn
Taeyeon Is “Happy” In New Single
Taeyeon from Girl’s Generation released digital single and music video for “Happy”
Review:
With it’s doo-wop vibe and optimistic lyrics, “Happy” is a song you can’t help but sway along to. There is no reinventing the wheel here, in fact “Happy” is borderline simplistic, anchoring onto almost nothing but Taeyeon’s vocals and a repeating chord progression. But the genuine sweetness rings true, and I would argue that an easy and refreshing single is exactly what we need right now. By the way that the song swept the charts soon after its release, it seems that many agree. With all that Taeyeon’s been going through, I’m glad that this was finally released and met with success. I think that this is a good example of how to infuse the trend of retro styles well. In fact, it would have pushed this song from ‘like’ to ‘love’ for me if they had leaned into the R&B feel even more. Even so, the music video is beautifully shot, the sepia tone adds to the laid-back throwback theme, and Taeyeon looks ethereal.
Overall: A sweet and easy-to-listen-to single that fans will be…. happy with. (I had to). ~daebakwhovian
The song definitely has a 60s vibe to it which I really love. It feels very nostalgic, it’s as if you are watching a T.V. show from that period. I was completely prepared to not like this song just because it is called “Happy” and it’s colorful and emo me was just not having it. But the song is very enjoyable overall. I think it is good for Taeyeon to have a cheery song like this because she has gone through some rough times. So it is nice to see her singing a joyful song and smiling. I too would have liked it more if it dived more into that R&B retro feel. Maybe if she could have dirtied it up a bit more, not like explicit, but maybe adding a bit more attitude and making it slightly less poppy. And yes, that’s not the concept, so maybe it’s just not to my taste. Taeyeon’s vocal is just…ugh, girl can sing! Vocals are stunning! Visuals are stunning! Taeyeon is stunning!
It’s a win overall! ~Kpopcorn
